wishes someone could implant all of the wine knowledge from all of history into his brain. Next best thing is the book I’m reading called “A Short History of Wine” by Rod Phillips. I started reading it the other day and it inspired me to restart this site. Two month hiatus wasn’t too long was it?

Drinking a bottle of 2008 Powder Keg Zin and it is divine! I’ve never really been a fan of zinfandel, but this bottle totally blows all my notions of zin being bad or overrated away! So full of interesting and lush flavors it’s a map to a new world as yet unexplored! Happy Friday… what are you poppin’ the cork on tonight?

An Irish priest is driving down to New York and gets stopped for speeding in Connecticut. The state trooper smells alcohol on the priest’s breath and then sees an empty wine bottle on the floor of the car.
He says, “Sir, have you been drinking?”

Ending the year on a downer with this absolutely pathetic attempt at wine. Doesn’t even taste like others in it’s class and has a nose that smells like a wet, stinky kitchen sink! Taste was okay, but not anything that is noteworthy. Basic black fruit, wood, light spice, raspberries… It just doesn’t hold together well and strikes out with me. Cheap? Yes. Serviceable? Not in this house it isn’t! There are many other Pinot Noirs I would recommend for even less than this one. Avoid at all cost!

I sure hope the 2004 Barolo I bought to ring in the new year kicks some serious ass as I’m so depressed by this wine I wanna bury my cork and forget everything right now… Happy New Year everybody!

Review- 2006 Mirassou Cabernet Sauvignon

This wine, which can be found in all corners of any grocery store it seems and is a ho-hum symphony of complacency and disappointment. Cheap, basic and just lacking any character. I even attempted to decant overnight with no tangible results in the chemistry of this sleeping giant. Mirassou has to be as common as Yellow Tail in some places and I find it as average if not more appallingly so. Black cherries, mild notes of dark chocolate and a rancid licorice aftertaste make this not worth the price tag. If you buy it, drink it with a meal to help mask the taste that will leave you completely uninspired to drink any more of it.
